Working with an Interior Designer
Working with an interior designer can be ridden with anxiety. After all it’s your home we are talking about. To let someone come in and rearrange how things are and finally make you pay for it is tough. But to get a well done home, needs an expert. And that expert is an interior designer. Once you have hired an interior designer for your interior design project, your job is not just to make the payments. To get the most out of it, you will need to closely work with the interior designer.
When you already own a place for living and are scouting for another property for investment, you must consider the following points to make the right decision:
Do your homework
Since it’s you who is spending money and will finally live in the house, you must do your homework well. Decide on a budget, and do a basic research on the way you want to design your rooms. If possible, collect pictures of what you like, and what you don’t. Also, make a list of your color preferences. If you are well prepared, you can remain in control of the project, and at the same time get the best from the expertise of the interior designer.
Communicate clearly
Communicate clearly with your interior designer. You must ensure that the designer clearly understands your expectations, and that he explains you any limitations in terms of design or budget.
Be focused
If you think that designing the whole house at one go is overwhelming, then break the project into smaller projects, and do one room at a time. Prioritize by starting with the most important areas in your room.
Budget
Interior design projects are very prone to overshooting budgets. Unless you are prepared, this can really hurt. So, plan appropriately for what you are ready to spend. If necessary, spread the project over months, so that you can mage the finances. Also, make sure you`re very clear on exactly how you`ll be charged, when your designer needs deposits, how you`ll be billed, what you get, and when the work should be complete. All types of expenses must be accounted for.
Be flexible
There are many reasons why a project can get delayed. Some of them are availability of materials, contract scheduling, and custom work, among others. Being aware of the possibility of such delays will make you less anxious and make you more flexible and adjusting with the interior designer.
Getting the Design You Want
In order to get the design you want, you must share as much information with your interior designer as possible. Clearly express your needs, your preferences, and what you are hoping from the project. A good way of doing this is to make sketches, or collect pictures, or photos of looks you have liked for homes. This will give the designer a more concrete idea on how to take the project forward.
