The Practical Ways to Decorate a Baby Room
With the help of this article, you can plan a room or space for baby from birth to till baby is about two years old.
Babies are happiest in their mother’s arms. Mums on the other hand love to plan for and decorate their baby’s room. The baby usually needs space for all their clothes, diapers, nappies, wash cloths and towels. Mothers need space to feed, bathe and change the baby. Not all parents keep an extra room for a baby and usually share theirs, especially when there is more than one child in the household. You could plan a room or space for baby from birth to till baby is about two years old.

The most basic but important element in the baby’s room is the baby cot. A baby cot needs to be basic and practical. A painted wood or MDF cot would do fine as would a basic wrought iron cot. If the cot has removable slatted sides it can be removed to be used as a standalone cot as baby grows bigger. Bumpers or cushions would save baby’s head from many bumps. As baby grows, you can change the print and colour on the covers to make it more fun for them.

A small cupboard with a large flat top could double as storage and changing area. Place a comfortable chair to feed baby. Add a TV to reduce boredom while baby feeds (for mom that is). Keep the walls in basic shades. Cartoon characters on walls are to tug mother’s heart not babies. You can with time put up interesting charts or plain paper for baby to scribble on. Try and laminate the floor to provide a safe and smooth surface for baby to crawl on.

String the ceiling with mobiles. Babies love observing movement on their back. You could string mobiles made of colourful paper.

Lighting is another factor to make baby’s room more effective. A dim light can be installed to check baby at night. Bedside lamps, uplighters-ceiling shades, electric magic lanterns are all interesting additions. A new trend is the portable night lamp. Baby clothes are tiny and numerous. Baby will soon outgrow some and have lots gifted to her. Choose a chest of drawers over a cupboard. They will be easier to sort and pick. Another alternative is to buy a few baskets to store pajamas, shirts and sweaters separately, if you choose to go with the cupboard.

A rug in an open area of the room could serve as playing space, esp. when baby is about 9-10 months. Have colourful wicker, cane or plastic baskets to store baby’s rattles and other toys. This makes to easy for baby to play and for you to clean up.

Above all child proof the room of overhanging from wires, open sockets. Most babies give that expensive toy a miss to play with the charger, or wire. Keep all medication away the reach of the baby. Keep the room well lighted, and storage locked if baby can get at it.

A baby’s room is a sanctuary for both mother and baby. Decorate and organize based on both your needs for peace and quiet. This does not require a lot of money, and can be converted into a child’s room as baby grows older.
